In 2007 Tom Miller co-founded the Vietnam Green Building Council (http://www.vsccan.org/vgbc/) with Vietnamese professionals to establish standards for green building and planning in Vietnam, as well as adaptation to climate change. With its large coastal population and vast delta area, Vietnam is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to global warming. VGBC has developed an innovative “LOTUS” system for rating buildings, which is especially designed for Vietnam and and SE Asia which, we feel, is superior to the LEED standard in the U.S. because it incorporates follow-up to assure that energy savings continue. VGBC is consultant in the construction of the first green building in Vietnam, the headquarters for United Nations agencies.
